Grant Award Win For Our Established Sector Engagement Initiatives
In 2019 Mission Motorsport launched the very first sector initiative ‘Mission Automotive’ as the Armed Forces engagement initiative for the UK automotive industry, with the support of the Ministry of Defence, in partnership with The Royal Foundation and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. In 2019 this model was replicated for the renewable sector, with the establishment of Mission Renewable. Both initiatives continue to positively influence their respective sectors today.
In 2023, the Veterans’ Minister Rt Hon Johnny Mercer MP saw the impact of our work at the National Transition Event (NTE). Held annually at Silverstone, NTE is the community coming-together where the respective missions are showcased to the Armed Forces community, alongside Mission Motorsport’s Troops’ Track Day.
On 12th April 2024, Prime Minister Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP announced to the nation, that Mission Community’s work with sector initiatives would be supported by the government via the award of a grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, enabling a new charity, Mission Community, to deliver more of what has been achieved in both in automotive and renewable, with other sectors. Through OP Prosper, Mission Community now looks forward to working with other sectors, industry bodies and trade associations, to help make the UK the best place to be a Veteran. The work of Mission Motorsport will remain, working closely with Mission Community as one enhanced team.
About Mission Community:
Mission Community- Championing the Armed Forces in UK Society- is the nation’s mechanism for delivering ‘Sector Initiatives’; Armed Forces engagement campaigns linked to a UK industry body or trade association.
Sector initiatives promote and share best practice, harness exemplars and help companies to access and retain Veteran talent, changing behaviours in the workplace, whilst empowering industry. They make the commercial and social value case for Armed Forces community engagement and use the industry bodies as champions for that cause. They reinforce and connect government and third sector support, promoting and rewarding collaboration. In this way, sustainable and relevant employment opportunities for Service Leavers, Veterans, Reservists, and their families are generated, and an enduring Armed Forces’ ‘community of communities’ is created.
