The Mission Motorsport Invitational 2024
Thanks to the unwavering support of Thakeham Homes and a dedicated group of volunteers, Mission Motorsport once again hosted an unforgettable day of recovery sport at Goodwood Motor Circuit on Friday 27th September.
Our biggest Mission Motorsport Invitational to date and undoubtedly one of the highlights in our sporting calender, we welcomed over 160 beneficiaries, veterans, and serving personnel and 25 charities including the Royal Hospital Chelsea, Blesma, Blind Veterans UK, and Fighting With Pride as well as small community organisations to the historic race circuit.
While the day at Goodwood featured exciting passenger rides in high-performance cars, it was the people who made the event special. For some, the experience helped build confidence, allowing them to re-engage with others after periods of isolation. For others, it provided valuable networking opportunities, offering introductions to potential employers and key figures in the automotive industry.
Despite the weather’s best efforts to dampen our spirits, there were smiles all around. One beneficiary, who was attending a Mission Motorsport event for the first time said, “I want to thank everyone involved. I thought it might be too noisy or busy for me as I suffer with PTSD, but it turned out to be an awesome day! At one point I was chatting to one of your lovely Mission Motorsport people and the tent we were sheltering in felt busy to me. I asked if she minded carrying on our conversation in the rain… bless her heart she did. We stood in the rain, chatting as if it was a lovely sunny day.”
James Cameron, CEO said, “The Mission Motorsport Invitational is a wonderful event of which we are very proud, and 2024 saw the largest ever gathering of Armed Forces communities at Goodwood Motor Circuit, thanks to the support of sponsors Thakeham and an army of volunteers. I’m particularly proud that 25 charity and community organisations attended, all bringing beneficiaries, and the connections made will have impact long after the adrenaline of the day has worn off. We’ve such a track record of luck with weather, but we can now officially update Roy Salvadori’s quote:
“Give me Goodwood on a rainy morning… and it is still absolutely fabulous”
We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Thakeham and our volunteers and drivers who generously gave up their time to support the event.
