Race of Remembrance 2024: Fuelling Remembrance and Resilience with Sustainable Innovation

  • Mission Motorsport Race Entries will be powered by Coryton’s SUSTAIN Racing GT80, a cutting-edge sustainable fuel.

This Remembrance weekend, from 8-10 November 2024, the Race of Remembrance (RoR) at Anglesey Circuit will once again honour the service and sacrifices of the military community with a poignant pitlane Service of Remembrance and a 12hr endurance race. This year, the spotlight is on sustainability, as all three of Mission Motorsport Race Entries; the Mazda MX-5; Toyota GT86; Subaru BRZ and the newly unveiled Course car the Poppy MAZDA MX-30 R-EV will run on Coryton’s SUSTAIN Racing GT80, a cutting-edge sustainable fuel that underscores a commitment to both environmental responsibility and support for veterans.

Race of Remembrance, Mission Motorsport’s flagship event, regarded as one of the highlights of the British Motorsport calendar of events, is a unique endurance racing event that integrates remembrance and resilience, offering a transformative experience that brings healing and unity through motorsports to the Armed Forces Community.

For the first time in the event’s history and an exciting first for Mission Motorsport, The Forces’ Motorsport Charity’s  RoR entries will be powered by Coryton’s SUSTAIN Racing GT80 fuel, a groundbreaking, sustainable racing fuel that reduces environmental impact without compromising performance. This includes the Toyota GT86 and a Mazda MX-5, which has participated in every RoR since its inception. In addition to these, the lovingly restored Subaru BRZ will also be fuelled by Coryton’s SUSTAIN Racing GT80, representing an ongoing commitment to circular economy principles, as it’s been lovingly rebuilt with repurposed parts—a testament to resilience and sustainability.

The adoption of SUSTAIN Racing GT80 represents Mission Motorsport's commitment to advancing sustainable practices in motorsport, aligning with a broader mission of resilience and adaptation. By using a fuel crafted with a focus on lowering emissions by around 65%, the race not only honours the memory of those who have served but also looks toward a responsible future, balancing reverence for the past with innovation for tomorrow.

SUSTAIN fuel uses advanced second-generation biofuels manufactured from agricultural waste, such as straw, by-products or waste from crops which wouldn’t be used for consumption. By doing so, the fuel utilises the carbon that already exists in our atmosphere, which the plants absorb as they grow, recycling it, rather than releasing additional CO2 that is currently locked underground in fossil fuel.

James Cameron, CEO of Mission Motorsport Said “This year’s Race of Remembrance is about more than honouring our past; it's about racing responsibly toward a sustainable future. By powering this event with Coryton’s sustainable SUSTAIN Racing GT80 fuel, we're not only commemorating the service and sacrifice of our veterans but also showing our commitment to protecting the world they fought to preserve. This race symbolises resilience, remembrance, and responsibility, and we’re proud to lead motorsport in a greener direction."

David Richardson, director at Coryton, the company behind the SUSTAIN brand, said: “We’re honoured to be playing a part in this year’s Race of Remembrance, which is a wonderful tribute to those who have served in the forces. We believe sustainable fuel has a key role to play in helping us be able to continue to enjoy traditional motorsport, whilst having less of an impact on the planet around us. With no negative effects on performance, events like this can really showcase how sustainable fuel can help us transition away from fossil fuel. We wish all the participants the very best of luck!”

Race of Remembrance is more than just a test of endurance; it’s a living tribute to those who have served in the Armed Forces. Beginning on Saturday, the 12-hour endurance race takes participants into the night, showcasing a variety of vehicles that echo the adaptability and resilience of the veteran community. A pause in race proceedings for a Remembrance Service at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday sets RoR apart from any other motorsport event, allowing competitors, pit crews, staff, and supporters to gather for a powerful remembrance ceremony in the pitlane.

James continued, “RoR is proud to have industry leaders like Coryton supporting this year’s event and by using SUSTAIN Racing GT80 fuel hopes to set a new standard in sustainable motorsports. This partnership highlights Mission Motorsport’s commitment to a future where environmental responsibility complements the ethos of endurance racing, making it a more meaningful experience for participants and spectators alike.”
