#YourRoR

We aren’t going to let COVID-19 kill the spirit of Race of Remembrance. Today we launch #YourRoR, an initiative to engage and inspire beneficiaries and supporters over the Remembrance weekend, 6 – 8 November 2020. It replaces the charity’s annual Race of Remembrance (RoR), a 12-hour endurance race that has been cancelled owing to Covid-19 restrictions, costing the charity £50,000 in lost output for beneficiaries and in fundraising.  #YourRoR offers a whole new raft of activity giving people a means to engage, fundraise and, most importantly, enable the community to safely come together online for a very special pitlane remembrance service.

For this year’s event, Mission Motorsport is asking supporters what they are doing for Race of Remembrance 2020, asking them to take on challenges or activities that will help the charity to raise funds and commemorate the weekend in their own special way. With a whole host of supporters already signed up to get involved, including Jason Fox presenter of ‘SAS Who Dares Wins’ who was due to race in this year’s event, #YourRoR looks set to encapsulate the spirit of Race of Remembrance - despite Covid-19. 

Alongside the race itself, and the all-important remembrance service, Race of Remembrance typically involves a supercar event, a Heroes Dinner, Biathlon of Foolishness and offers beneficiaries the opportunity to work in the pitlanes as part of teams and get involved in a race. This year’s event hopes to attract an equally diverse and fun mix of activities and people. On Sunday November 8th, at 11am, as every year, the fun will stop for a special online pitlane service for everyone to join, featuring military personnel, a bugler and a service chaplain. 

James Cameron, CEO at Mission Motorsport said: “It was a really tough decision to cancel Race of Remembrance, but to protect our supporters, the competitors, beneficiaries, volunteers and employers, we had no choice. However, the show must go on, and while the shortfall of £50k is a bitter pill to swallow, particularly in these testing times, the remembrance service (with an endurance race attached)  holds a very special event in all our hearts and we knew we had to do something.  

“This year’s #YourROR promises to be something truly special and we want people to get creative. What are they going to do to commemorate this weekend? In the spirit of Race of Remembrance, are they going to set themselves an endurance race of their own? Is it possible to find an event more foolish than RoR’s Biathlon of Foolishness - a fancy dress run and a dip in the Irish Sea maybe something along the lines of the Biathlon of Foolishness and get in fancy dress for a paddle in the icy North Sea. Whatever it is, we welcome everyone’s participation and we will be joining our community together, safely and online, to commemorate this weekend in true Mission Motorsport style.”
