When it was announced that our annual fundraising event Race of Remembrance (RoR) was to be cancelled, many of our beneficiaries and supporters decided to take matters in to their own hands.

The Mission Motorsport Thursday Night Racers, knowing that they were going to miss the camaraderie and support that the infamous race provides (as well as the excellent racing,) hatched a cunning plan to a ensure that they could be together for Remembrance and help one another through a tough weekend, whilst raising funds for the charity, in a Covid safe, lockdown compliant way.

Utilising their passion for cars and online gaming, they held their own special Race of Remembrance using Xbox One. The six hour endurance race, made up of 16 competitors was held on Sunday 8th November, Remembrance Sunday, and involved thrashing cars around the 24hr Le Mans Race Circuit de la Sarthe. The only respite came when all drivers entered the pitlane at 11:00 and commemorated the fallen with a minutes silence.

The group set themselves a £2,000 fundraising target in order to help generate the estimated £50,000 deficit the cancellation of RoR left in its fundraising capabilities. Due to hard work and perseverance, the guys managed to raise an astonishing £3,330 s whopping 166% of their original target.

Mark Brayson, one of the organisers said “ The Thursday night racing offered by Mission Motorsport is much more than just racing. It allows us to get together, relax and enjoy a laugh or two. Completing this challenge is just one way we could help the charity out.”

Matt Holman, another member of the Mission Motorsport Thursday night racers added, “It has been an invaluable platform throughout lockdown. Organising an online Race of Remembrance seemed a logical way to give something back. As a group we are immensely proud of what we have achieved”

James Cameron, CEO of Mission Motorsport, upon finding out what the group had done said, “ It is really humbling to see our beneficiaries and supporters arrange their own events and fundraise to support us. To not only raise funds, but actually smash the target is incredible. We are truly grateful to receive the donation and have such a fantastic network of supporters and beneficiaries.”

The team of racers that took part in the racing included; Mark Brayson, Matt Holman, Chris Leech, Asa Thorp, Ryan Davies, Steve Binns, Jake Gornall, Scott Armstrong, Noel Doidge, Jack Watson, Jason Bourne.
