Exercise Arctic Rider - Raising funds for Mission Motorsport

  • REME SSgt Gavin Harrison to complete a motorcycle ride from BATUS to Tuktoyaktuk, Canada and back from the 4th - 18th July 2022.

  • An arduous 8,500km journey, (the equivalent of Land’s End to John o’Groats six times), the challenge will see Gavin ride for 15 consecutive days.

  • Riding unsupported across various terrains, Gavin hopes to raise at least £3,000 and awareness of the Forces’ motorsport charity.

Long term friend and supporter of the charity, REME SSgt Gavin Harrison is finally making his aspirations a reality as he sets out to ride the breadth of Canada solo, on his 2014 Triumph Tiger 800 XCA. Named “Exercise Arctic Rider”, Gavin is hoping to raise at least £3,000 for Mission Motorsport.

Gavin’s planned route - the equivalent of driving Land’s End to John o’Groats 6 times.

Setting off from BATUS ( The British Army Training Unit Suffield), Gavin’s epic ride will see him journey across the North West Territories of Canada to Tuktoyaktuk and back across a variety of terrains including the “Dempster Highway” an offroad stretch, approximately 1860km in length.

Throughoughout the challenge, Gavin will be wild camping at night and will face temperatures ranging from 30ºC in Southern Alberta to lows of 0ºC in the Northwest Territories.

Talking about his fundraiser, Gavin said, “ Completing Ex Arctic Rider is something I have wanted to do for a while. Why? In part my own stupidity and because I want to raise funds for Mission Motorsport - a very worthy Military charity.”

Taking with him minimum supplies, Gavin will ride through the Rocky Mountains, breaching the Arctic Circle and continuing north to the edge of the Arctic Ocean. Artic rider will not only test Gavin’s physical and mental resilience but his mechanical, navigational and riding skills to the limit!

Setting off on the 4th July, and expected to take 15 days, you can keep up-to-date with Gavin’s activities by following his Facebook page:
