ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity awards a grant of £27,000 to Mission Motorsport to support the delivery of sporting events and maintain the training wings fleet and equipment.
ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity has today announced a grant award of £27,000 to Mission Motorsport, helping mentally and physically injured veterans to rehabilitate through motorsport and train for new careers in the automotive industry.
Helping Mission Motorsport to fulfil its core mission, “Race, Retrain, Recover”, the funding will be used to deliver over 60 sporting events throughout the year as well as the maintenance of Mission Motorsport’s training wing vehicle fleet and equipment. It will also help fund opportunities for veterans to retrain and provide employment opportunities in the automotive sector.
ABF, The Soliders’ Charity supports a range of charities involved in helping Army veterans find new careers after they have left service and who use sport as a means of recovery. In 2022, Mission Motorsport welcomed 534 Army beneficiaries to sporting events, provided over 66 recovery sporting events and directly supported 26 wounded injured and sick (WIS) veterans into employment.
James Cameron, Cameron, CEO, Mission Motorsport said, “We are incredibly grateful to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity for their continued support. Using motorsport as a hook to get those who are harder to reach out of the house, these events help to combat social isolation and help beneficiaries to engage with others, build their confidence and enjoy activities that they would not normally access. As we transform our training to help those leaving the Army to harness their skills, this generous grant means we are able to collaborate with others and help more beneficiaries on their recovery journey.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, added: “Many veterans come out of the Army with first-rate engineering and mechanical skills that can be valuable to wider industry, especially in the automotive sector. We are proud to make another grant this year to Mission Motorsport’s valuable work in promoting motorsport as a recovery activity and career opportunity for Army veterans.”
