ABB Formula E Race At Home Challenge round up

Whilst Mercedes-Benz EQ driver Stoffel Vandoorne won the Race at Home Challenge overall, he wasn’t the only party to be celebrating success. Mission Motorsport representatives Gareth Patterson and Lionel O’Connor both put in stellar performances in the guest driver seats on the Challenge Grid.

Made up of professional sim racing drivers the Challenge grid was subject to all the standard FIA race rules and regulations, so a casual online get together, this was not. As seen in recent events, conduct during official online racing can make or break a racing drivers career, so one would forgive Gareth and Lionel for feeling a degree of pressure. As always however, the pair not only adhered to the strict race requirement but also proved on the day that they were in fact faster and less incident prone than some of the other members on the grid.

As the race counted down from 15 laps to the chequered flag, the slowest driver would be eliminated in a ‘race royale’ format. Much to the credit of Gareth and Lionel, they were never the first to be eliminated and always put up a strong fight, putting in impressive times any driver on the grid would be proud of.

“Lionel and Gareth, having you both on board and the support of Mission Motorsport over the past 3 weeks has been a real highlight of the Race At Home Challenge - a very special part of our teams journey, but also a personal highlight of mine too so thank you. You have all inspired, enlightened and touched us all here at Formula E with your dedication, courage and enthusiasm which is certainly something you should all be extremely proud of. With not only joining us all on the extremely competitive challenge grid, but also putting in great competition and support, we really do hope to find an opportunity to work together again in the near future.

Thank YOU for everything you have given to us in time, effort and material...your videos have touched us all and you’ve certainly gained some fans here at Formula E!”
